Is Woke Really Broke?

In the days since the Election we have been entertained by the spectacle of the far left in meltdown.  From the politicians and bureaucrats of Washington to the celebrities of Hollywood, evangelists of the woke theology have been in a mindless state of denial, panic and vitriol, fighting and blaming each other for what we know to be their obvious disconnect from the common sense of the American majority.  However, while their temper tantrums and ceaseless rantings of “racism and misogyny” were somewhat amusing for a short time, we should perhaps be starting to feel a little alarmed by the potential effects of their frenzied mob mindset.  How far are they blinded by their madness?  To what extent could they act out their psychopathic resistance to reality and common sense?

The use of that word ‘psychopathic’ is not hyperbole.  It describes perfectly the mentality and conduct of the far left.  A psychopath is defined in one dictionary as “a person affected by chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behavior” and in another as “a mentally unstable person, especially a person having an egocentric and antisocial personality marked by a lack of remorse for one’s actions, an absence of empathy for others, and often criminal tendencies.”  Without attempting to make a serious psychiatric diagnosis on such a wide scale, we can still confidently apply this definition to many if not most of the ‘Woke Folk’; we can recognize that this psychopathic mob mentality has unfortunately transformed previously sane members of our society into crazed and bloodthirsty followers of the evil cult we are now witnessing.

This identification of the far left as mentally ill is not meant as a blanket condemnation.  Their souls are not yet lost.  We need to view them, not with the eyes of a Republican or even as a common-sense American, but with the eyes of a Catholic.  And as Catholics we must acknowledge that they all have the potential to stop being crazy.  We must pray for them, and just as importantly, pray for the success of the coming Trump administration.  After all, if America truly does become safer, healthier, more prosperous, more united, and all the other things President Trump promised, the far left will have a much more difficult time clinging to their hatred of him.  While it may be naïve to hope they would abandon their animosity altogether, their shrill screams of anger would have to be stifled in the face of growing opposition from the masses.  It benefits us not just by these natural consequences, but also spiritually—by praying for their conversion, by interceding on their behalf at the throne of God, we are obeying his commandment to love our neighbor, even our enemy.  If they do not change, we must accept the consequences of their free will decision.  But remember, so must they!

By exposing the psychopathic nature of the far left, we shall be better prepared to act prudently in our own lives, being careful to love our neighbor irrespective of their own apparent wickedness and avoiding any appearance of violent antipathy or hatred on our own part.  Let the woke folk fall into the trap they set for us, sit back as they fight each other, ever mindful of our Lord’s words that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand.  Our prayers must rise to God that ‘woke’ truly is ‘broke’ once and for all.
